Is displaying allergens mandatory?

Yes. Under EU regulation INCO No 1169/2011 (and the French decree of 2015), any establishment serving non-prepacked food must inform customers, in writing, of the presence of the 14 major allergens in its dishes.

What are the 14 allergens requiring mandatory declaration?

Cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame seeds, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, lupin and molluscs.
